Vicky is inspired by organic structures combining the inherent qualities of materials with innovative techniques to produce wearable precious forms that delight the senses. This personal dialogue between concept, material and technique forms the basis of individual, one–off pieces of jewellery. Vicky incorporates silver with other precious and non-precious materials in her designs.
Vicky explains that to her “jewellery is an art form; I see jewellery as wearable sculpture, a means to explore relationships and forms, to ask questions and present challenges, to soothe the senses or to awaken them”. The making process requires focus; at every stage in the development of a piece of jewellery, challenges arise and choices must be made. The final outcome shows Vicky’s evolving relationship between the idea, the choices made, the application of process, and the behaviour of the material, she explains that “with a successful piece of jewellery these elements find accord”, Vicky goes on to explain that “equally important to me in the making process is the notion of intent. As we weave and forge and form our intentions into objects, here we jewellers have the means to exercise alchemy”.
The ‘Medusa’ collection reclaims the power of the Snake Goddess, combing leather and sterling silver into alluring coils that reflect the movement of the snake. Sharp points, hooks, rattling bone-like beads all combine to create edgy, powerful and seductive jewellery that can be worn in numerous ways on the body. These snaking coils can be twisted and manipulated to create unlimited sculptural forms and become wearable in so many different ways by wrapping them around the hand, arm, neck, waist... all waiting for you to play with them.
